Step 1: Confirm that the Underlay is right for your prosthetic setup
The current Ethnocare Underlay is designed for people with a below-the-knee amputation.
It is compatible with most prosthetic liners and can be used with several common suspension systems, including pin-lock systems, suspension sleeves, and passive or active vacuum systems.
Ethnocare does not currently offer a transfemoral Underlay for above-the-knee amputees.

The Open version leaves the distal end of the residual limb uncovered. This maintains direct contact between the skin and the bottom of the prosthetic liner.
The Open Underlay can be a good option for users whose suspension system depends on distal skin-to-liner contact.
Underlay Closed
The Closed version covers the complete residual limb.
It may be better suited to users with a more bulbous limb shape or those who prefer additional coverage at the distal end.
Your prosthetist can help you determine which version is most appropriate for your limb and suspension system.

A properly fitted Underlay should sit snugly against the residual limb without feeling excessively tight. It should not be loose, folded, or wrinkled.

Yes. The Underlay is compatible with pin-lock systems. The Open version may be particularly relevant when maintaining distal skin-to-liner contact is important.
Can I order the Underlay direct, or do I need to see a prosthetist?
We strongly recommend consulting a prosthetist first for a full evaluation, to determine candidacy for the Underlay, which can typically be billed through most insurances. They will also ensure correct sizing, product selection and compatibility with the other components and consumables worn. However, in some countries and certain situations this may not be possible, which we recognize and therefore also offer a direct sale option.
