A New Step in Ethnocare’s Mission to Improve Prosthetic Comfort
At Ethnocare, our mission has always been to address the most common challenges faced by amputees. For more than three years, we have focused on helping amputees manage daily limb volume variation through the Overlay, a solution designed to improve socket fit, comfort, and stability in the socket.
Now, we are expanding our product ecosystem in Canada to address another major challenge in prosthetic care:
heat, sweat, and comfort inside the liner.
The new Ethnocare Liner is designed and developed in Canada and will be launched in Canada through our exclusive distributor, OrtoPed. Built for clinicians and their patients, the Ethnocare Liner range includes both silicone liners and gel liners, with options for transtibial and transfemoral users, multiple suspension methods, and different levels of cushioning and support.
The Ethnocare Liner is now being launched on the 1st of June in Canada by a Canadian company. Engineered for clinical performance and patient comfort.
The Ethnocare Liner was designed to provide prosthetic clinics with a locally sourced liner solution backed by Canadian expertise.
Ethnocare Liners are:
-
Exclusively distributed in Canada by OrtoPed
-
Supported by local clinical and product expertise
-
Developed to serve the needs of Canadian prosthetic clinics and lower-limb amputees
This launch marks an important step for Ethnocare as we continue building a broader ecosystem of prosthetic interface solutions designed to support comfort, fit, and day-to-day usability.
Product Overview
The Ethnocare Liner range includes two main material families:
-
Medical-grade silicone liners
-
Gel liners made with TPE material
Both families are available for lower-limb prosthetic users and are designed to support different clinical needs depending on limb shape, activity level, suspension method, sensitivity, and cushioning requirements.
The liner range includes options for:
-
Transtibial amputees
-
Transfemoral amputees
-
Distal locking suspension
-
Cushion suspension
-
Different levels of softness and support
-
Different thickness profiles
Silicone Liners
Ethnocare’s silicone liners are designed for users who require a balance of comfort, support, and suspension control.
A key feature of the silicone liner is the integrated knitted fabric matrix, which is designed to help minimize pistoning and enhance suspension. This makes the silicone option especially relevant for users who need more structure and stability within the socket.
The silicone liners also feature a tapered profile, which follows the limb’s natural shape and provides increased cushioning to pressure-sensitive distal anatomy.
Silicone Durometer Options
The silicone liners are available in two durometers:
Silicone 30 Shore 00
-
Available for transtibial users only
-
Available in distal locking and cushion versions
-
Available in 3 mm and 6 mm tapered thicknesses
-
Designed for K1–K2 users
-
Softer option for gentle support
Silicone 40 Shore 00
-
Available for transtibial and transfemoral users
-
TT available in distal locking and cushion versions
-
TF available in distal locking only
-
TT available in 3 mm
-
TF available in 2 mm
-
Designed for TT K1–K4 users and TF K1–K3 users
-
Firmer option for users requiring more support
All silicone liners are light grey, have a length of 35 ± 2 cm, and include the integrated knitted fabric matrix. Locking versions include a distal M10 thread, while cushion versions include a protective distal cup.
Gel Liners
Ethnocare’s gel liners are designed for users who need a softer, more forgiving interface. The gel liner is made from TPE material and does not include a matrix, allowing for higher compliance.
This makes the gel liner especially relevant for:
-
New amputees
-
Sensitive residual limbs
-
Users requiring additional cushioning
-
Users who may benefit from a softer interface
The gel liner has a uniform profile with differential anterior/posterior thickness. The posterior wall is always 3 mm, while the anterior wall can be 3 mm, 6 mm, or 9 mm depending on the selected version.
This allows the liner to provide extra anterior protection without adding unnecessary posterior bulk.
Gel Liner Features
-
Available for TT and TF users
-
Available in distal locking and cushion versions
-
30 Shore 00 durometer
-
Dark grey color
-
40 ± 2 cm length
-
Available in 3 mm, 6 mm, and 9 mm anterior thickness options
-
Posterior wall remains 3 mm
-
Designed for K1–K3 users
-
Locking version includes M10 thread and anti-rotation connector
-
Cushion version has no distal connection
Silicone vs. Gel: Key Differences
Both silicone and gel liners are designed to support prosthetic comfort, but each material serves a different clinical purpose.
Silicone Liner
The silicone liner uses a tapered construction and integrated knitted matrix. It is designed to offer structure, suspension support, and comfort for users who need a stable liner interface.
Best suited for:
-
Users who need more structure
-
Bony or pressure-sensitive distal anatomy
-
Users who may benefit from reduced pistoning
-
Patients requiring a firmer support option
Gel Liner
The gel liner uses a uniform profile with differential anterior and posterior thickness. It is softer, more compliant, and designed to provide additional anterior protection without increasing posterior bulk.
Best suited for:
-
Sensitive limbs
-
New amputees
-
Users requiring extra anterior cushioning
-
Users who need a softer and more forgiving liner
Suspension Options
Ethnocare Liners are available in two suspension configurations depending on the material and user profile.
Distal Locking
The distal locking version includes an M10 thread, making it compatible with standard pin systems. Locking versions are available across multiple TT and TF liner configurations.
Cushion
The cushion version is designed for suction-based suspension systems. Cushion variants include a protective distal cup, which helps prevent textile fraying and increases product durability.
Cushion liners are compatible with active and passive suction suspension.
Designed to Work with the Overlay System
The Ethnocare Liner has been designed with the Overlay ecosystem in mind.
A dedicated visual marking is integrated into the liner to help Overlay users with positioning. The Overlay should sit with its bottom edge below the reference line and arrow printed on the liner. The vertical logos also serve as a guide to align the product with the tibial axis.
This positioning can be adjusted slightly depending on the user’s anatomy, socket design, and fit preferences.
For clinics already using the Ethnocare Overlay, this visual reference can help support a more consistent fitting process.
Clinical Indications
The Ethnocare Liner is indicated for lower-limb prosthetic users who may benefit from cushioning, comfort, protection, and interface support.
Indications include:
-
Lower extremity amputation
-
Minor soft tissue coverage
-
Bony prominences
-
Sensitive skin zones
The liner range gives clinicians multiple options depending on the patient’s limb presentation, activity level, and sensitivity.
Trial, Casting, and Warranty Programs
To support clinical adoption, Ethnocare and OrtoPed will offer programs designed to help clinics evaluate and fit the product with confidence.
30-Day Risk-Free Trial

Why This Launch Matters
The Ethnocare Liner represents the next step in Ethnocare’s mission to improve prosthetic comfort for lower-limb amputees.
After addressing limb volume variation with the Overlay, Ethnocare is now expanding its focus to the liner interface, one of the most important areas for comfort, protection, suspension, and daily prosthetic use.
With silicone and gel options, TT and TF configurations, locking and cushion suspension, and multiple thicknesses, the Ethnocare Liner gives clinicians a complete new option designed to support a wide range of patient needs.
